Allowing microphone access in Safari on iPhone

Open the PRONTEST learning site in Safari and allow that site to use the microphone. Simply looking for a Safari switch in the iPhone app list does not let you check site-specific permission.

Who should do this: the person learning in Safari on iPhone. The following steps apply to Safari on iOS 26 and 27. Home screen web apps and the App Store version are covered separately below.

Allow the learning site to use the microphone

  1. Open the PRONTEST learning screen in Safari. Display the page where you actually record, rather than the account information page.
  1. Press the page menu button near the search field. On iOS 26, then open 「その他」 (More) and check the settings for the website currently displayed. On iOS 27, open 「ウェブサイトの設定」 (Website settings).
  1. Set 「マイク」 (Microphone) to 「許可」 (Allow). If you select 「確認」 (Ask), allow access when the prompt appears as you record.
  1. Reload the learning page and follow the on-screen instructions to start recording. Keep the screen open and speak briefly. On screens with an input waveform, check that the bars change height with your voice. On screens without a waveform, follow the recording instructions displayed.

If you cannot find site-specific settings

Open the iPhone’s 「設定」 (Settings) → 「アプリ」 (Apps) → 「Safari」 → 「マイク」 (Microphone) and check the setting. This setting affects websites in Safari generally, so one option is to set it to 「確認」 (Ask) and allow only the PRONTEST site when studying. Also check any site-specific permissions you have already set.

If you opened it from the home screen or App Store

  • Web app added from Safari: Open the same learning site directly in Safari and compare whether you can record. If the web app requests permission, allow access there too.
  • App installed from the App Store: Check that app’s permission in 「設定」 (Settings) → 「プライバシーとセキュリティ」 (Privacy and security) → 「マイク」 (Microphone). This is separate from changing Safari’s site settings.

If your voice is not picked up even after allowing access

End any calls, and check that your hand or case is not covering the microphone. If you use Bluetooth earphones, also try with them disconnected. If your voice is not picked up in other recordings on the iPhone either, see Apple’s steps for checking the microphone. If it happens only in Safari, tell support your iOS version and the error text.
