Allowing microphone access in Safari on iPad

In Safari on iPad, check microphone permission for the learning site you use to record. If an external microphone or Bluetooth earphones are connected, also compare with those devices disconnected.

Who should do this: the person learning in Safari on iPad. These steps are based on iPadOS 26. If the device is on loan from your school or company, ask the person responsible for managing it whether you may change these settings.

Check permission on the recording page

  1. Open the PRONTEST learning screen in Safari. Display the page where you record, rather than another page such as My Page.
  1. Use the page menu button near the search field to open 「その他」 (More).
  1. In the settings for the website currently displayed, select 「マイク」 (Microphone) and set it to 「許可」 (Allow). If it is set to 「確認」 (Ask), allow access when prompted during recording.
  1. Reload the learning page and start recording. On screens with an input waveform, check that the bars change height with your voice. On screens without a waveform, follow the recording instructions displayed.

Also check Safari’s general settings

If you cannot find the site-specific option, open 「設定」 (Settings) → 「アプリ」 (Apps) → 「Safari」 → 「マイク」 (Microphone). Setting it to 「確認」 (Ask) lets you respond when a site wants to use the microphone. Also review any site-specific permissions you have already set. You do not need to allow all sites at once.

Check the effect of external devices

  1. Stop recording, disconnect any USB microphone or Bluetooth earphones, and try the iPad’s built-in microphone.
  1. Check that your case or hand is not blocking the microphone area.
  1. If you can record with the built-in microphone, reconnect the external device and check again. See the manufacturer’s instructions for device compatibility and connection methods.

If you opened it from the home screen or another app

For a web app added to the home screen, compare with opening the same page directly in Safari. If a permission prompt appears in the web app, you also need to respond on that screen. For an app installed from the App Store, check that app’s permission in 「設定」 (Settings) → 「プライバシーとセキュリティ」 (Privacy and security) → 「マイク」 (Microphone).

If your voice is picked up but you cannot proceed with learning

A responding waveform indicates that audio is being received; it is not the recognition result itself. Review your recording environment using “What to check if your voice is not recognized.” If the issue persists, tell support your iPad model, iPadOS version, equipment used, the state of the input waveform, and the error text.
